Special?

So, on the Adam Corolla Radio Talk Show this morning, there was a guest caller and everyone was talking about how everyone was told when they were younger that they were "Special".

Fast foward 20 years later and everyone still thinks they're special when they clearly are not. I highly agree with Adam Corolla in that a majority of the population needs to be humbled.

Examples:

1. People cut me off in traffic because they think that whatever they have going is more important and more urgent than my life so they risk it by cutting me off to get to their destination quicker.

2. People ignoring or insulting one another because they think they are better than everyone else. I see the insulting of others often here on the internet, and I've even been a victim on a couple forum sites including Gamespot.com. I honestly think that giving people a voice on the internet was a mistake. Yeah... it's hypocritical because I use the forums, but 99% of society is hypocritical. At least I try to show some respect to others.

The old saying "When everyone's special, no-one is." holds true today as well as back when it was first said.

I'm so sick of today's society and the mind set that so many have. I'm sure many share this opinion. Do any of you agree?

Re: Special?

lol don't get me started

I see so many ills in this world that sometimes I just feel like getting away from it all!

So many people fail to think logically about things. Don't get me wrong I am quite an emotional person myself, but I use my head wherever possible.

Too many people think about themselves and no-one else, it's all me me me. I try to put myself in other people's shoes whenever possible. However, I've found that as I get older I am less forgiving, so while I will give leeway to 'nice' people, I just haven't got the time of day for idiotic nasties! I just can't be bothered to waste my time on them!

I don't 'blame' people tho. Far more blame should be put on the media and other institutions in positions of power. Dumbed downed century?

Re: Special?

You know that there is Generation X and Generation Millienials... but did you know that the new generation is getting the tag... Generation Me. That's incredibally sad.

Re: Special?

You prob wouldn't have seen it, but the tv show big brother last year had such an annoying example of what you mean. An adult acting like a 4 year old who would throw strops to get her way and cry to get attention. I would have sat her down and said, "listen love, I know this might be a little harsh but you act like a child. I'm not joking, you really do act like a spoilt brat sometimes - my nieces and nephews half your age have more than 5 times the maturity". I would have been nice about it but made sure she had some thing to think about.

If she'd then have carried on I wouldn't have been so nice

Re: Special?

Yeah, Adam Corolla is known to ramble on in his speeches, but 90% of the time they are really deep in thought. I always loved tuning in to Loveline and just listen to him ramble, though last time I heard he was off the show.

But yeah, people do tend to think that they really are special, when in fact they're quite the opposite. Unless you're the emperor of China (I don't think there even is one), then odds are you're just a regular guy (or gal) and there's really nothing else to it. I wish some people could be a bit more sympathetic and try putting themselves in another person's frame of mind.
