Re: Panasonic TZ7 - my new toy

At the mo I feel like I'm missing RAW, and think I may miss the manual modes (aperture/shutter control) if I want to get more creative.

The Canon S90 has those, but only a 3.8 zoom (the TZ7 has a whopping 12x!)
The Panasonic LX3 is a sweet little camera with a stunning lens, but again only 2.5zoom.
They are 280 and 319 - so a fair bit more expensive than the TZ7 too (which is 200).

Then there's the Canon G11, but only has 5x zoom - but at 420 it's not cheap. It, and the LX3 are favoured by pro-togs when they want a compact camera to just walkaround with.

The other option is the Panasonix FZ38 - pretty much the same quality as the TZ7 but with longer zoom and RAW and manual modes... however it is bigger - two and a half times the depth of the TZ7 (but the TZ7 is tiny to begin with anyway, and only the Canon S90 is as small out of this lot).

What kind of shooting do you want it for? If just a Point and shoot, it's great!

Re: Panasonic TZ7 - my new toy

^^ Would just like to dip my toe into photography... i'd never go as far as having a full works canon with half a dozen different lenses in a bag. Would just like to do basic stuff, mainly based around car photography. This looks right up my street... got a birthday coming up so see what I can sort out

Re: Panasonic TZ7 - my new toy

If you don't mind size so much, but still want something fairly compact - I would recommend you check out the Panasonic FZ38, it will have the additional modes that will be ideal if you're just getting into photography - also the hd video is better, something I think you'll like with your cars!

The main reason people go for the TZ is size, ie. cos it's tiny

Re: Panasonic TZ7 - my new toy

Thanks for this Azz, I have just bought one off eBay after your Recommendation as I have been looking to get a new digital cam for my hols. I have a quite old Nikon Coolpics one which does take fantastic pictures but think its time to upgrade.

Re: Panasonic TZ7 - my new toy

Fuerteventuras nice. Can't remember exactly where we went but all the towns we drove through looked similar. The beaches and sea are lovely. The only annoying thing about it is the (very warm) wind, which can get very strong, but its absolutely boiling there so you'll defo enjoy it. Very relaxing.

There also big on windsurfing so that could be worth a try (we never got found to It), but we did go golfing and quadbiking which were both great. I think there's also a water park towards the north of the island which had some decent slides and pools with very little queueing from what I remember.

One of the built up areas close to the hotel:

Yea the scenery arounds not great, but the holiday areas are nice as you would expect:
