my lg tv is trying my patience

i went to use my ps3 last night and the tv stayed blank a signal was being received but there was no picture or sound.
i thought it was the hdmi cable so bought a new one and still didn't work.
connected the scart lead to the tv and ps3 and the tv picked that up just not hdmi???

so i phoned playstation tech support and after alot of different things i got the ps3 working on my other samsung tv via the hdmi.

so the guy at tech support said that the lg tv is obviously at fault and for some reason is not accepting the hdmi signal.
he gave me 2 options 1. that if the tv is not hdcp compatible then it will not accept the hdmi signal or 2. the tv is fu**ed.
but as i got it 3 months ago that i should contact argos about a refund or exchange.

very frustrating, and all this happens when the girlfriend goes on hols for 4 days, and i thought i'd be on the ps3 all day long haha how wrong was i.

Source as in plug in a cable box, or satellite box, or PC, or anything else that generates an HDMI signal.

Re: my lg tv is trying my patience

Does your pc have hdmi out? If so connect that and see if it works.

Also, try holding down the power button on the PS3 for 5 seconds on power on, that should reset the video settings as that might have been the prob.

Re: my lg tv is trying my patience

I would check the HDMI setup on the TV, my friend's panasonic has 2 selections per HDMI, not really sure why, but you have to make sure you select the left one...it's kinda hard to explain. Check the LG tv's manual for troubleshooting tips

Re: my lg tv is trying my patience

LG's aren't like the Panasonics, the settings are generally kept really simple. Sounds like whatever device on the board decodes the HDMI signal has gone kaput. If the PS3 works on another tv its not that. Only way to check is what Kaz said; stick another HDMI device in. No luck then the telly needs fixing.

It'l be an engineer call out as well not an exchange/refund unless you're extremely lucky, retailers almost never *exchange* a branded TV within warranty even if it is only a couple of months. In fact they'll probably make you call LG yourself.

And just as the GF goes away? Bummer dude

Re: my lg tv is trying my patience

This is why I bought monitors that also have HDMI inputs...
If both of my TVs go out, I still have two screens that work with my 360 and PS3 in 1080p.
