Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

Since I am a lifeguard/security, I have to keep in swimming shape! So I try to swim the 300 at least once a week.

Only thing I really do is Geocaching. I really haven't had time to do that recently either.

Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

Well, I really should change my lifestyle I think because the only exercise I do is walking about at work, the diet is also terrible I am in no way fat in fact I occasionally get told I need to gain some weight! I consume what could be considered a ridiculous amount of coca cola I have my own little recycling box cause it fills with cans so quickly, but hey I eat tuna 5 days a week its not all bad lol

The problem is I want to play my PS2 PSP and to lesser extent for the moment at least PS3 because it is fun, most exercise is not

Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

Sit on my backside, reach for biscuits/crips/coffee several times a day and.. ..oh

I lost a load of weight while I was working, now I seem to be putting a fair bit back on again. Heh..

Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

I used to be very fit until I was about 20 years old. Played Rugby 3 times a week plus played other sports. When I went to University I stopped playing sport and lived off beer and cheese on toast and put on 5 stones (70 pounds) in 3 years. I then got a office job when I was 25 and put on another 2 stone (28 pounds).

It has been a nightmare ever since trying to lose the weight. I have lost as much as 5 stone (70 pounds) but always put it back on.

It's the one thing I have always wanted to do (get my original weight back) as everything in my life is really good and all other goals I have set I have achieved with no problems, e.g. stopped smoking. I don't eat badly at all, I just never burn any calories off anymore.

Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

I do a fair amount of walking during the week but that's about it.

I can't put any weight on and I don't hesitate to eat bad food, so i'm not too healthy I suppose but have no intention to do anything about that right now.

You'd be surprised at how bad some 'food' is. I used to eat 'healthy' but then I discovered a detox which showed me how bad that 'healthy' food was!

For example, people think sandwiches are healthy - they're not! Admittedly they are not as bad as greasy fish and chips, but I wouldn't call them healthy. Our bodies don't generally like, yeast (in bread) Lactose (in bread and almost everything else these days, due to it being an effective sweetner _and_ preservative) sugar (again in almost everything) and chemical crap (preservatives, flavour enhanchers etc etc).

Basically, most of the stuff we buy in supermarkets is full of poo!

I have a detox sheet I'll post up when I get five mins - if you tried that you'd get back to what you're meant to be in no time

JayStorm - just because you are not putting on weight doesn't mean it's not doing you any harm. 'Bad' food reacts to people in different ways..

To All - sorry I always go on about the detox!! I know I can be annoying sometimes!! (It's only cos I care tho! )

Re: How do you keep fit and healthy?

Walking? Outside? Excercise? What is this horrible thread?

lol.

I used to Cycle (without failure) 20 miles a night. I was extremely fit. Then... I went to tenerife and drank beer everyday for a week and smoked far too much. Not blaming the holiday, just got out of the loop!

Now, I walk.. to the car, from the car into work, then back to car and home, then up the stairs. Been like this for a year now and I'm starting to get seriously unhealthy.

I need to get back out on my bike and get going again, before my heart crawls out of my ear whilst I'm asleep one night!

Any ideas on food to get you alert / energised?

It's all about consistency, exercise and watching what you eat. Try cutting out carbs after 5pm, this will reduce your portion size to just meat and veg in the evening, also stops any of that bloated feeling before bed. Eat carbs through the day tho and always have breakfast, porridge is good. And try alternatives to unhealthy things such as sugar and salt...try honey to replace sugar as it is a natural sugar and your body burns it up slower so you don't get that sugar rush and lemon or lime as subsitutes to salt in some cases, such as making your veg taste great or flavouring rice/potatoes, etc. Watch out for things that you might think are healthy...a bagel is the equivalent of about 5 slices of bread! So check the labels and look at calorie content. Aim for about 2000 cals a day to lose weight....although if exercising regularly and you feel sluggish and tired increase portion sizes/calroie count as food is fuel.

Exercise...walking isn't quite good enough, go for a light jog for about 30mins every other night. If this is too much then start off with 10mins and then build it up. They say that to start burning fat you need to exercise for an hour!!

Another good way to loose the pounds is to measure instead of weigh....muscle ways more than fat so the scales can't always be accurate. So measure your waist/stomach/chest etc and keep a diary...take measurements every other week and you'll notice a difference and should motivate you. Do some weight training also...muscle burns calories, more muscle more calories are burnt off. Maybe it's time to get some dumbells?

Hopefully with a few lifestyle changes and motivation you can get your shape back...please only take these as suggestions for you to try...if you really want to get in shape, see your doctor for a healthcheck and then book an appointment with a personal trainer. Even small changes can make a difference tho...if it's a nice day, walk...if there are stairs then take them instead of the lift or escalator, etc.

Good luck.
