Hello again

Hi,

This is my first post on GameSlurp, though I made a few back when it was Gamesy.

Eagle-eyed Azz noticed that I had updated my dormant account and suggested I say hello and make a post.

I was updating my account as, following the PSN hack, I've been going through all my passwords and changing for the sake of security. This is taking a lot more time than I thought but as I'm currently unemployed, time is something I have in abundance.

So, who am I? Well, that is answered in full here. The short version is that I'm a gamer in his late 30s. Its been my hobby, passion and for around 15 years, my career. If I'm a fanboy of any machine, it has to be the Commodore 64. I love all sorts of games, I typically lean towards more indie stuff and stuff from Japan. I tend not to play online much as I get beaten to a pulp by folks half my age which isn't a lot of fun for me and bruises my delicate ego.

I firmly believe that gaming is great and is always getting better. There's never been a better time to be a gamer than right now, and I'll say the same thing next year too.

Re: Hello again

Hey Phil - welcome back!

I loved the C64 as well, it's what I first played Bubble Bobble on

Sorry to hear you're currently out of work, I bet the gaming industry has been hit hard by the recession, bit like the design industry - we always seem to get hit first. Glad you are keeping well otherwise.

I agree with that, well I would just add that within 6 months to a year of the current gen I'm always looking forward to the next - I think I'll stop doing that when games match CGI films (on the visual front).

I reckon that could be the next gen. (Hope so lol!)

Re: Hello again

Thanks Azz,

I just did a bit of rummaging, found my 2007 'hello' post and saw that the sentiments expressed in it were pretty much identical to the one in this post. People rarely change, huh?

I should point out that my career in games ended when Free Radical shut their doors overnight in late December 2008. If I lived near London then there's plenty of game companies to work for, up here in Nottingham, not so much choice. There's plenty I miss and plenty I don't miss. In many ways it's great to be a regular gamer again. I can just play a game without finding myself constantly analysing it.

Thanks for the warm welcome, again.

Re: Hello again

I can see how working in the gaming industry might take the shine off of actually playing games...but making a hobby a full time career is definitely the way to make your working life enjoyable.

All the same, welcome back KD.

Re: Hello again

Welcome back. Yeah, the games industry is really hard to get into lately, what with devs shutting their doors - EA's Pandemic and Activision's Bizarre Creations just to name a few, so things are tough...
