Re: Detox: Feel how nature intended you to feel - Amazing!

I'll just re-post one of the comments which sums up what I think of that article:

Quote:
Yeah, I don’t see the current food movements to be typical nostalgia. Mostly, I see

* What we’re eating is hurting our health
* The way we make it is hurting the environment

The link back to Michael Pollan has to do more with how complicated the issue is for a non-professional. He pretty much calls it a rule-of-thumb, not the most important thing in the universe.

It is, demonstrably, easy to fit to the historical narrative, but that’s really an obvious oversimplification.
I doubt many people choose a palaeolithic diet for anything other than health.

Re: Detox: Feel how nature intended you to feel - Amazing!

Heh. I still say that the reason that we aren't healthy with our current diet is because we evolved to need useless junk in our diet that slowed down the processing of the energy, we didn't evolve a mechanism to ration out energy properly nor a good mechanism to switch to stored energy and retain our metabolism instead of reducing the Basal Metabolic Rate. Due to ancient evolutionary pressures and because good energy food wasn't available back then... Our body tends to shut down to a bare minimum of energy consumption first before going to stored food because that was the best survival mechanism way way back when. (Better to eat muscle first so that you slow down the energy use before eating fat, so the fat lasts longer.) All in all, what we need is a bit more science to make up for what evolution left us lacking, instead of trying to succumb to the evolutionary flaws of our genes and in the process use our resources inefficiently. What people call "Junk Food" is incredibly efficient and energy dense. It would be far superior to "health food" if we could just tweak a few settings in our metabolisms and fix some of the evolutionary quirks.
