Your body struggles to digest meat??

Jeeez, take a friggin biology lesson will ya. Our bodies don't need to detox, that's why we have kidneys and a liver...our digestive system starting with our mouths are geared towards both meat and veg...that's why we have sharp pointy teeth unlike a cow. And is meat really that much harder for our bodies to digest? Cows eat just grass and need multiple stomachs to process enough food to keep themselves alive! I think our bodies are pretty damn efficient.

Even nutritionalists will recommend eating meat.

Just eat a balanced and varied diet...simplez, and if you care about your meat then support your local butcher.

Western diet (heavily meat based) elimination takes about 2 weeks.
African plant based diet elimination takes about 12 hours

Our digestive systems are more like herbivores than carnivores - yes we can digest meat, but we're obviously built to eat it sparingly.

Carry on eating crap and listening to the propaganda and 'advice' funded by... the food and pharmaceutical industry don't worry, if it makes you feel any better you won't be alone, most people just don't have the self confidence (and intelligence) to break away from dictated conventions.

This 'fad' btw, has not been disproved by scientists - any scientist worth his or her salt supports it! Study after study has shown people who eat a plant based diet are less likely to suffer from heart disease, cancer, diabetes, alzheimer's and a whole host of other common diseases that effect so many people in the western world.

And what the hell is elimination of food? Is that when I poop? Just wondering because it doesn't take me 2 weeks to poop out my roast chicken.

Meat digestion really doesn't take very long, unlike plant cellulose which humans can't even digest, sweetcorn anyone? So I'm not really sure what the argument is there...look at the length of a cow's digestinal tract compared to say a cat's...perhaps also compare how often these animals eat and the amount they eat. Then compare it to our system, we don't have 4 compartments to our stomach or an extra pouch in our intestine where we harbour special cellulose eating bacteria like a rabbit. We are somewhere inbetween.

So we're omnivores...we eat meat and plants...fact. Do we need to? Maybe not, but meat is nice and full of goodness. And no, I'm not talking about a pork pie or a turkey twizzler.

A few questions for you though Azz:

Why is a steak crap? Why is milk crap? Why is cheese crap? Why is a tomato crap?

Just interested to see what you believe.

Also, those excerts from that book talk about bad food stuffs full stop, aspartame for example is bad, but we don't consume enough of that for it to pose a real threat and it's probably healthier than guzzling down the sugar that would be required for the same level of sweetness, I'd still try and avoid consuming it. Plus there are better and healthier sweeteners on the market - and people should know that...or should if they're into being healthy and have a sweet tooth. Also, sugar isn't bad for you, alot is, but a little? No. Just like any food substance, only eat an amount that is healthy.

No doubt the book goes on to talk about chicken periods, puss and blood in milk and how farming animals harms the environment...just a guess.

I'm also against intensive animal farming, I think that's completely wrong, that's why I buy happy free range chickens, free range eggs, british farmed beef, etc rather than the cheap shit you see in the supermarkets or the burgers you see in MacDonalds.

Elimination - yes it's poop. How do you know it doesn't take you that long to eliminate? Have you added a dye to your food and tested? I guess not. And thanks for making the point about sweetcorn (first of all you silly boy for not chewing your food and secondly) thanks for demonstrating how easily veg passes through your system... unlike meat (Oh and if it wasn't clear I'm not say we can't eat meat - I'm saying we shouldn't eat much of it... and that's when it's in it's purest form too, not this mass-marketed cruel low quality 'poisoned' dyed shit you find in the supermarkets!! << that's the crap I'm saying we shouldn't eat.**)

Farmed animals, are given routine antibiotics, growth hormones, steroids, are fed food which doesn't have to meet the pesticide standards of food for human consumption - that's just meat and just for starters. Diary cows are given similar shite to eat and hormones that make them produce up to 25 times more milk than they normally would.

On top of that, mass milking results in infection on their udders, so add some pus to your dairy food. And because of the tight conditions they are kept in infections such as ecoli are common. Which of course ends up in the milk. That's why they pasteurise it but you're still drinking it.

On top of that: fact - meat is harder for you body to digest/eliminate - fact - most people can't digest milk after childhood.

Like I said Jotch, be my guest - continue to eat that crap. If YOUR happy with it that's all that matters right

And don't kid yourself about buying free range - they still get given all that shit I mentioned above and how do you even know they really are free range or organic? Lots of stories in the press the last few years about non-organic stuff being sold as organic! And to be perfectly honest - I wouldn't put it past them and have often bought organic stuff and thought they slipped in non-organic in this batch - going by taste/texture! (However if push came to shove I'd rather take my chances with non-organic veg than non-organic meat/diary!)

As you're a mainstream kinda guy Jotch (as you seem to dismiss anything that's not as 'fads or cons') here's a mainstream programme I just discovered. Only saw a couple and while his heart is (almost) in the right place it is very watered down - not once for example does he mention the crap the chickens are fed/administered to get them to these extremes. Tut tut. But still, hopefully it'll be of benefit to the masses.

Seen that before Azz, you should also watch Kill It, Cook It, Eat It - you can probably find these on the IPlayer. Also you should check out the dvd releases of Faces of Death - or you can just search for youtube clips from all over the world on cruelty to animals.

Whilst I'm against cruely to animals and intensive farming, such as what is shown, that's why I buy good quality meat, that is farmed correctly - in the UK we have quite strict laws and animal welfare. You can go out and buy RSPCA endorsed chickens, British Farm Assured Beef, etc...you can also check out Defra.gov.uk and food.gov.uk to educate yourself further. I mean you must have lovely welsh lamb on your doorstep!

So educate yourself Azz and buy the right stuff - speak with your wallet.

I can't help what they serve in restaurants however, but that's a different matter.

And to your previous post, we've been through this before - milk is treated appropriately and again you can buy organic milk that has to meet certain standards. And the whole milk can't be digested after childhood is nonsense as well. Please do some research yourself on this, I know there are many websites that state otherwise but the human digestive system is a wonderous piece of kit - I am talking about the UK here regarding milk.

In fact, get yourself a chemistry set and do your own experiments, you could leave a piece of meat in acid and see what happen. You'll find that it's digested quite easily by the acid...or as it happens in humans broken down by the acid and enzymes in our gut. Plant material like I stated such as 'cellulose' can't be digested by humans - that's why it passes straight through, you don't want things passing straight through otherwise where's the benefit?? Food needs to ferment in the gut so that bacteria can eat the food and we can absord the bacteria poop - or elimination as you call it. That's just the way our gut works.

To be honest, enjoy your book, sounds like a good laugh - but I think I'll skip this one and get some real nutritional advice from elsewhere.

And if you really want to be sure about organic produce or where your meat has come from, visit the farm and the farm shop. Speak to the farmer. See the cows, and other animals. Speak to the farm vet.

All I've said is that you can read the labels and educate yourself.

But this thread based on this book seemed to be a bit preachy and almost scaremongering...even the aspartame into methanol into formalderhyde seems to be scaremonger tactic and by the looks of it slightly incorrect as fruit juices and suprise suprise alcoholic drinks contain methanol - which again is digested safely in our small intestine in reasonable amounts - again I think paranoia is coming into play here. You do know how much aspartame there is in sugar free drinks don't you?

Like I said in one of my earlier posts you should study some biology and try to understand how your own gut works with the enzymes, bacteria, etc and what different foods are broken into, add Chemistry to that as well, at least then you won't be duped or think that your body requires a detox diet that lasts 2 weeks.

Again, enjoy your book - but try to read between the lines a little.

There was one bit that might be of interest to you - there was a study done on centenarians (that's people that live to 100years of age) and they wanted to find a common factor. So they asked a load of lifestyle questions like did you smoke, have you been overweight, are you vegetarian, etc, etc.

None of them were vegetarian, some had smoked and a few had been obese!

3 - When water is heated it gets less dense, when cooled it gets more dense...the unusual bit would be when it gets below 4C where water gets less dense and hence floats in it's own liquid form. Or maybe you're on about something else?

4 - Colour Green is the light not absorbed by the item...the wavelength is around 240nm in length or something. However, colour sight is just our brain's interpretation of what we see so it's different for everyone. You can get really philosophical with this one if you want as some people don't see colours at all (very rare).
