I was gonna post something about this but things kept getting in the way

(Need more hours in the day!)
Anyway, I'll post a quick response now and go more in-depth at a later date.
First of all the biggest PITA is time, or rather lack off. I've actually just finished making a new site live (this very hour in fact!) it had been in beta for a few months and so it's just got it's new look and features. As you know I am emotionally invested in the sites I start so it was a site I just had to do. However I have been watching the community develop here since day one, so in that sense I am always 'working on' this site, even if in the ideas stage.
Anyway now that the other site is live I can turn my attention to GameSlurp
The news section/page designs are complete - they were actually done the same time we launched as 'GameSlurp' (Tom and Smak can attest to that as they've both seen them). However, one of the things that's made me put the news on hold is a shortage of writers, and a lack of my own time. To do the site justice we would need a team committed enough to write consistently, and consistently good too, and tbh, that's a lot harder and more time consuming than it might sound. And then there's the big thorn. Me.
I dunno, I just think GameSlurp is more suited to be something else. Forums/news sites/blogs are so yesterday - I want us to be something else, something different, something new, something fresh, something exciting!
So I'm gonna go down that route

and maybe launch a beta of my idea at some point. If it doesn't feel right or just doesn't work then news is the fall back option!
The only problem is, it will be a custom site (so that's doing things from scratch) so no relying on pre-made software (like forum software or CMS systems) but that in itself should help make us stand out as we'll be different. I've already started the site spec and am also learning new languages... but we'll see how it goes. I'm a perfectionist and just want what's best for us, and with such a unique name/brand I just don't think I'd forgive myself for not giving my other ideas a go first.
I'll post more when I have more to tell
