Is there something wrong??

Hi Guys

Watched our first blue ray film last night but the picture was very very grainy (film was from Lovefilm.com) so we tried one we had bought to me it seemed much better but hubby reckons it was same. Is it the DVD/settings/TV/Console thatís at fault?? Any help greatly appreciated

Re: Is there something wrong??

Depends what film it was...most films weren't recorded in HD so are only as good as being upscaled...in this case you'll get some grain from seeing the film clearer. A bit like the grain you sometimes see at the cinema.

If it's a new film however it should be very clear. A good way to see if it's something with the setup is to get Planet Earth on bluray as that has sections in SD because they couldn't use an HD camera for every shot. You then notice the difference between the quality much easier...plus it's a great blu ray to have...amazing imagery!

There are some settings on the PS3 you can edit, you can bring up the menu whilst watching and change some settings, otherwise the rest are in the system settings menu.

Not really sure. I'll not replace my dvd collection, I'll just get new films on BluRay...film that's not digital can still have a clearer picture depends on the source really and how the film has been stored at the studios and how they put it onto Bluray etc, etc...

A good website I've just found and if you check out that review you'll see that even tho he didn't like the film the quality is good.

Re: Is there something wrong??

Think I might do the same & not replace DVD collections & only buy new films on Blue ray.....still got Die hard 4 & Black hawk down to watch yet on Blue ray. Would love to see Casino Royale on Blue ray love that film, did you know Daniel Craig who plays 007 is from the Wirral

Re: Is there something wrong??

Was it a dvd (2nd post) or a blu ray(1st post)?

Which films were they?

Is your PS3 set to output in 1080p with full rgb?

Get a nice new film like Casino Royale - it's awesome

Even though you TV is set to 1080p, you have to maually set you PS3 to set the RGB thingy to full settings, I believe you do this by going to 'Display Settings' on your PS3 then go to something like 'RGB setting' and change that setting from 'Limited' to 'Full'. Hope that helps!

Re: Is there something wrong??

I haven't seen 28 WsL so can't comment on the press to be honest... some are not as good as others : -/

Casino Royale IS a good press tho - so one to use as a system test/show off

(as if you need an excuse to get it )
