Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

Hey Guys!

I'm sure most of you ditched IE long ago, but just in case any of you haven't I am posting this up here as well (I've posted it on other forums I run too).

Basically I am trying to get our users to switch to more standards compliant browsers - one's that are adopting the latest technologies fastest... because all the future sites I (and most other web devs) are working on will work best in modern browsers which have adopted the latest technologies... unfortunately IE (even newer versions of it) is lagging WAY behind - so people using it will get more of a crappy web experience.

On my other sites I am recommending Chrome - because it's a nice replacement for IE users.. doesn't have too many features that will feel alien, is fast, secure and free! And also because it's leading the pack when it comes to adopting the latest standards. Here's a list of the top adopters:
  1. Chrome
  2. Safari
  3. Opera
  4. Firefox
  5. IE

Source: http://html5readiness.com (take a look it's a neat site!)

However Safari, Firefox and Opera are great choices too (anything but IE lol!) - if you want the best web experience tho (when it comes to latest tech) Chrome and Safari are the leaders.

I'm sure none of you will need help installing chrome but if you do, just post in here and hopefully someone will be able to help

If you don't know which browser you are running - click here - it will tell you, along with which features your browser supports.

Please do consider making the switch - you'll notice all sorts of nice things in a decent browser

Re: Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

I've been trying out IE9 for the last month (coming from Chrome) and it's pants, back on Chrome now. I like Opera too but Chrome feels faster imo.

If you don't need all the bells and whistles of Opera, Chrome is a really good choice

All versions of IE are pants - I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole

Re: Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

What features do you use the most in Opera?

Re: Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

Mouse gestures, speed dial, wand, grouped tabs, my bar (which has bookmarks and folders of bookmarks), fullscreen, dragonfly - and probably more that I can't think of right now

I use Chrome when I am reading online books and while developing - because it's nice and compact looking - just a nice fit

Re: Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

Unfortunately there are many businesses that are stuck with IE for the time being...such as the place I work, so that's at least 40,000 people and that's only IE8! 6months ago we were all on IE6!

It is annoying, but with those other browsers moving soo quickly it's very hard for applications that utilise a web browser to keep pace, especially if they're critical to your business.

I know where you're coming from, but you should support the most widely used browser, even if it is poor - so I hope you're not dropping it completely!

It usually depends on the site, where we look at target audience. We would try to degrade gracefully for IE and lesser browsers so won't be dropping it completely - just you'll get the best experience on a modern browser

Re: Say goodbye to IE (Internet Explorer)

I only use IE for a handful of things that require it. Like microsoft reporting, and Oracle SGD Admin, and Citrix...
