Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

I've got an 8 meg connection which I hope will be ok!

The 360 on a 2 meg connection is fine tho. Although my ISP virgin hasn't been great recently... and I was thinking about changing to another. What ISP are you with Dan?

AOL 9.0 Gold... in my opinion, very good service, not great speed though! Got a good ADSL Router and a homeplug to my room capable of 85m/s so hardwares all good... check my connection speed on PC, usually tops a 2mb/s on a good day... averages a 1.2mb/s :S hence the reason im a little worried!

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

I've got a 2meg broadband connection, but I don't see myself facing any problems apart from when downloading large demo files. Multiplayer games should run fine on this connection tho.

Will probably upgrade to 4meg connection at some point when I've got some extra cash to throw around.

True, AOL is an expensive service for their poor download speeds, everytime you upgrade and pay more they slow it down and release a newer faster version for double the price! Should change really!

I have never had trouble playing PS2 online on connection, just praying it can keep up with the PS3!

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

Well I downloaded 1.8Gb whilst I was at work using torrents, not sure what speed it peaked at but I think this is sufficient for my needs and the PS3's. Not sure how much data is sent when playing online but it can't be that much can it?? It seems to depend on whether you have a good stable connection more than anything.

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

i have orange broadband (used to be wannado)i just upgraded to 4.5mb from 2mb,i think 2mb would be for some games, but for fall of man which has 40 people online i can't see it coping with it so thats why i upgraded to 4.5,it will handle anything

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

Luckily I'll only have Motorstorm at launch so I'll not lose any sleep over 40 player R:FOM. But maybe I'll upgrade sooner than I think depending how things go....

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

Not sure about EU but here in the US they are really cheating you on upload speed. I have a 7Mb download but only 512kb upload speed.
Good place to check your true connection speed (check a couple of different times during various hours of the day)
Speedtest

For those of you in the UK, if you have a BT line for your broadband you can use this to test your connection speed: http://speedtester.bt.com

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

I've used the Speedtest site with my cable connection in the UK and have been pretty impressed with it.

...the site that is, rather than my connection which is only about as expected i.e. a bit slower than advertised but at least it's reliable.

Re: What's a sufficient broadband speed for online play???

512mb/s would be fine - best with a 1 meg + service though.

I've done alot of switching ISP's. Firstly, stay away from Tiscali like the plague. Seriously, do not even think of going with them. Customer support - crap, speed - crap, latency - crap. Freedom 2 Surf are good, I'm with them now.

You should check out ThinkBroadband. Its got speed tests, ISP reviews and best of all when you do a speedtest, it takes your ISP details etc - then puts them all up into monthly totals. Its great to compare ISP's when you're changing.

If anyone needs any advice on switching just ask.

Shame my router's a pile of crap and I can only get a connection sitting in my brother's room. Well actually my signal's strong but my net doesn't work, not sure why. Spose it could be my macbook.
